The Center for Internet Studies (CIS) is an interdisciplinary unit for the study of the global networked society. The Center's work focuses on the intersection of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) with economic, political and social systems.
A principle mandate of the Center is to develop new modes of teaching and researching to better explain, explore and shape the emerging information age. Within the University of Washington community, CIS serves both as a catalyst for creating new programs in the study of ICT and society that draw on the strengths of departments across campus, and as a resource for staying abreast of developments in the study of ICT and society more generally.
CIS research projects and other activities are comprised of faculty and students from multiple departments, not only at the UW but from other universities as well. As such, CIS brings to each project a tailored team that is both interdisciplinary and global in its composition.
